Automation fixtures & the MPG Gripper

As electronics manufacturing automates, the tooling has to keep up — handling, gripping and locating boards for robots and automated cells. Griftools applies ~20 years of fixturing experience to automation, including our own MPG Gripper, as a development partner for teams moving toward automated PCB handling.

Where automation fits

Automated handling, machine tending, and repeatable part presentation for robotic cells — built on the same engineering discipline as our soldering and depaneling fixtures.

The MPG Gripper

The MPG Gripper is Griftools' own universal gripping development for flexible and reliable part handling.

Its modular design makes it suitable for different PCB sizes, product variants and automation concepts without requiring a completely new gripper for every application.

Individually controlled gripping modules allow stable handling at multiple points, even in more complex pick-and-place or depaneling-related processes.

With optional adapter plates, ESD suction cups and robot-specific mounting, the MPG can be tailored to the exact process requirements.

It is a strong solution when flexibility, repeatability and reduced manual handling are key priorities.

A development-partner approach

We work with you from concept to working tooling — prototyping, testing and refining around your cell and your parts.

  1. 01Share your cell, parts and handling goal.
  2. 02We prototype gripping and presentation tooling.
  3. 03We test and refine around your process.
  4. 04Working tooling, ready for your automation.

The MPG at a glance

Multiple parallel arms

Several arms on one head, each with its own vacuum ejector and vacuum sensor, so modules can be switched on and off independently.

Taught by hand

Arm positions are set by hand and stored — no CAD step and no re-machining to move a pick point.

Up to 100 programmes

Stored on the gripper and selected through the built-in HMI, for quick changeover between board variants.

More than 500 g per arm

Movable mass per arm, depending on the size of the suction cups.

Figures from the Griftools MPG data sheet. Arm layout 150 × 150 mm, with a Ø80 mm circle per arm. Patented design.

In motion

The MPG multi parallel gripper handles boards of any shape, size and weight — up to 2000 g across its modules, and compatible with any robot or cobot.
